I was wondering some question about growing Cannabis in a Greenhouse in Canada.

Can you veg a plant in a greenhouse over the winter months using only a 60watt bulb to extend the day light hours, or would you need to supplement the light with 600 -1000 Watt bulbs?

Would you have better results vegging indoors in the winter months?

    no the sun is not strong enough for what we like in the winter months you can do it just the results wont be stellar compared to full on sun, supplemental with 1000 hps would help them along! the veg would be slower and you will need to think about temps anything below 50 and phosphorus become immobile{not that it is super mobile to begin with}
    Planning on doing this for next summer getting into the green thing.when you get to april may the sun is starting to get stronger and you could veg with a 60 watts bulb to extend the day light......

    Agree'd, without a good supplemental lighting and proper heating, winter growing is not comparable. Hook up the 600's and 1000's in the greenhouse.

    That said its more a matter of sunshine, the sun is plenty powerful in winter, the low hours of daylight combined with overcast cloudy conditions make for unhappy plants.

    I've heard of a few commercial greenhouse producers moving to the prairies for the sunshine hours where it is often cloudless all day, as its cheaper to pay for gas heating than electricity for lighting. Getting several hours of direct sun during most times in winter is better than anything one could replicate indoor.

    Without supplemental HID's in greenhouses one is left without control of the most important aspect of growing quality plants!

    good idea. my friend builds bars for his light movers and attaches 3 X600hps per bar...
