Thoughts on leds.....
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

Do LED's provide the correct wavelength of light for plant reproduction?

Specifically the near/far ratios.....

Leds are interesting,,,it will be eventually perfected for horticulture if these do not work

walmarts is switching all there stores to LED lighting,,,they will save 30 million a year,,

Hi plantbuilder,

i read on another site that methanol will inhibit photorespiration, so the plant will store energy rather than burn it in the darkcycle.

Is that true? If so, is it applicable to c?

Hey PB, have you done any experiments on UVB? Do you happen to know how much UVB is enough? How much is too much?

But why do you use them only when it's been proven they don't produce as well as HPS? I would think you would at least be using both bulbs simultaneously.

Hey PB, I hope you don't mind me chiming in here.
UVB; 1 - 3 mins per hour (I used a mover as the bulbs were short, and the space larger) to start, and working upwards as strains show tolerance and not burning.

Massive increases in crystal on some strains.

peace - Tug

BTW, MH lights produce more UV light than HPS, a mix is often best, but some strains respond best to the stress of finishing under a MH.

you can pick up EM and rice bran bokashi from a nice japanese lady in richmond:

Century Farm Ltd Hiromi (f) Hiroshi (m)

Hiromi Sugiyama
EMX Technologies, Inc of Canada
emxtechnologies@shaw.ca
604-924-0797

I've purchased from both successfully

bokashi can be made easy enough with EM, molasses and sawdust, etc.

this thread seems more like 'cutting edge' material.. anyone object if I move it there?

The UV light I had were non-ozone producing (if that's what you meant), they were B type (predominantly B), but I think a combination A & B was produced by lights back then (late 80's/early 90's). I'll check on that, see what I can find.

The lights were about 6" away from the plants on a mover (20 mins for the 3').
The most noticeable differences in crystal increase seemed strain-dependant.
I didn't figure that out until later as I was still fairly inexperienced when experimenting, but some strains with high % of their crystal as capitate-stalked trichomes (Indicas usually, I believe) showed the best increases.

I think LED's will be big in the future, less heat generation etc..

This has me thinking that some experimentation may be worthwhile now, as I'm able to define real results with more objectivity as an adult.

Power use might also be something improved upon.

What about Fibre optic transmitted light. Can yu imagine an array created with those?Your thought ?Peace GS

Thanks for the input PB and Tug. :good: I thought the UVA light was bad for plants? At least that's what I've read.

I remember a link that was posted on the old Leafreaders library that had pics of a big tree growing right in the middle of a building which was fed light through fiberoptics only. It was a great article!

They had one at the BC hydro Expo.Looked like an octopus with the tips fashioned all around the plant.I laughed at the $1000 CND price tag....

fibre optics is interesting, for moving the heat out of the grow area too

prism light tubes? what ever happened to those
and carbon filament lights?

would you care to explain the process of THC conversion that occurs when MJ is heated for eating?

specifically how long, what method, and at what temperature is best.

thanks pb, much appreciated!

may i bother you with another question: is there a way to influence the m&f ratio of "normal" seeds to our advantage?
